Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, better known as D’banj, has refuted allegations that he took sides with Peter Okoye of P-Square fame in his fight against another singer, Seun Kuti.
D’banj also dissociated himself from the inciting comments on social media about Seun Kuti, one of the sons of Afribeats legend, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The disclaimer is coming on the heels of the feud between famous Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye and his colleague, Seun Kuti, over the latter’s comments on the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
In a statement made available and signed by D’banj’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, the singer advised the public to disregard the malicious publication by gossip blogs that are out to drive traffic.
He also described it as mischief meant to stoke non-existent conflict between him and his colleagues in the music industry.
The statement read: ”This is to notify the public that Mr. Oladapo Daniel (D’Banj) never made any derogatory or disparaging statement against anybody, especially within the entertainment industry, nor has he directed the publication of any such material on his behalf.”
Also expressing shock over the false publication credited to him, the singer said musicians in Nigeria must remain one despite their political differences because elections are for a short period.
“We must all remain one big family in the industry. Though political ideologies may differ and could be expressed in heated ways, the irrefutable truth is that elections will come and go.” the statement further said.
