42 Years Sentence: Court Grants Senator Akpan Bail

The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has granted bail to Uyo Senatorial District Senator, Bassey Albert Akpan.

Akpan was granted bail on health grounds pending the determination of an appeal he filed against his conviction.

An Uyo Federal High Court, led by Justice A.A. Okeke, on December 1, 2022, sentenced Senator Akpan to 42 years imprisonment for corruption.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), had arraigned Akpan for receiving exotic cars worth N204 million from a contractor of the Akwa Ibom State Government, Jide Omokare.

While reacting to the bail, Akpan, who is also a governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) for the 2023 election in Akwa Ibom State, wrote in a Facebook post: “In every situation, God has something to say. It’s all about God. That same God.”
